General-purpose balcony nets sometimes use a mesh size that's fine for adults but still wide enough for a toddler's head or limb to slip through. Our children's safety net uses a tighter 1.5-2 inch weave specifically so there's no gap a small child could push through, squeeze under, or get a limb caught in.
We also close off the gap between the net's bottom edge and the balcony floor completely, since that's the most common weak point in poorly installed nets. Corners and joints are double-stitched and reinforced, since children tend to test edges and joints more than open mesh sections.
